    Why run this trail?

The Fforest Fawr Round brings together two of the Brecon Beacons’ quietest mountain routes into a single long-distance circuit. Linking the summits of Fan Llia, Fan Dringarth, Fan Fawr, Craig Cerrig Gleisiad, Fan Nedd and Fan Gyhirych, it explores almost every corner of the Fforest Fawr uplands, and would make an ideal training run for an ultra marathon.

Expect a constantly changing landscape: rolling moorland ridges, remote valleys, lush glacial escarpments, the ancient Roman road of Sarn Helen and expansive views stretching from the Central Beacons to the Black Mountain and the Swansea Valley.

The route combines everything from well-worn mountain paths and ancient tracks to faint trods, pathless moorland and several stream crossings, with just enough navigational challenge to maintain a genuine sense of exploration throughout.

For runners looking to explore the area in a single continuous circuit, the Fforest Fawr Round is hard to beat.
